Quentin Tarantino has assembled a starry ensemble for his latest (eighth!) feature film. Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Damián Bichir, Bruce Dern, and even Channing Tatum will star in the western.
Set sometime after the Civil War, the plot revolves eight westerners who seek refuge in a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass during a blizzard.
Specifics on the plot are still a little thin, with the latest trailer doing a far better job at introducing the colorful characters than telling us what the story is. But if there's anything Tarantino is good at doing (for better or worse), it's spinning a very intricate story filled with memorable characters. We know he can deliver that at the very least, so whatever the end result is, it won't be boring.
Judging from the trailer, it seems to be meaty opportunity for Jackson, who was the best part about the otherwise meanderingly long "Django Unchained". Leigh's involvement also intrigues me, as it's been some time since the actress has had anything to do. Both actors are vastly underrated in terms of critical adoration, so let's hope that Tarantino hasn't saddled them with a thankless role like he did to Kerry Washington.
Who knows if the Academy will go gaga for this in the same way they did with "Inglorious Bastards" or "Django", but seeing as it's Tarantino and Weinstein is distributing, it's definitely a contender.
"The Hateful Eight" will be released on Christmas Day, just in time for awards season. You can watch the trailer below.

First Trailer for "Macbeth": Intense, Dark and Beautiful
Justin Kurzel's "Macbeth" was a big surprise coming out of the Cannes film festival, being better than previously anticipated. Though stars Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender won acclaim for their performances as the infamous plotting couple, Kurzel's direction and the film as a whole were praised.
Ultimately, I do fear if the film gets any awards attention (it is being distributed by Weinstein after all) it'll center around Fassbender and Cotillard. But after watching the new trailer, I see what a shame that would be, because it looks gorgeously rendered. There are a number of "money shots" to pull from the short teaser, and the overall tone is incredibly morose and intense, in the best way possible. Here's to hoping the film can find some success outside of the performances come awards season.
Watch the trailer below. "Macbeth" is scheduled to be released later this fall.

Cannes Film Festival Opens, but Not With A Bang
The reviews are in, and it seems like Nicole Kidman's buzzy (and troubled) Grace Kelly biopic is a lot like real life bff Naomi Watts' Princess Diana biopic, in the sense that it's not very good. Directed by Olivier Dehan (La Vie En Rose), the film kick started the Cannes as the festival's opener (out of competition; the film will not be competing for the Palm d'Or nor the Best Actress award).

Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Katie Holmes and.... Taylor Swift?
When did we ever think there was going to be a film in which 3 time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep and Grammy winner Taylor Swift would star in a film together? Those of you that did, were right
That's right, Swift and Streep will co-star alongside Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges (who also serves as the film's producer), Katie Holmes and True Blood alum Alexander Skarsgård in the film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel "The Giver". Brenton Thwaites (who plays Prince Phillip in the upcoming Maleficent) also stars as the protagonist named Jonas.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the premise, the plot focuses on a utopian society in which humans are free of conflict, racism and sickness. However, as the plot thickens, it's made clear that the society is more dystopian, and less utopian.
The film is distributed by The Weinstein Company, and will be released on August 15. Until then, we have this trailer filled with lots of cuts to famous people to enjoy.

Nicole Kidman's Grace of Monaco and Steve Carrel's Foxcatcher moved to the 2014 film season.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Nicole Kidman's Oscar bait biopic on actress Grace Kelly has been moved from this fall to spring of next year:
"The Weinstein Co. no longer plans to release Grace of Monaco, a drama in which Oscar winner Nicole Kidman portrays actress-turned-princess Grace Kelly, in time to qualify for this year's Oscar race. A limited release originally had been set for Nov. 27, and Kidman, by virtue of her past awards success, has been mentioned as a possible contender. But The Hollywood Reporter has learned that TWC has decided the film needs more time to be completed, and, according to sources, will be released during spring 2014, positioned more as a commercial entry than an awards play. TWC did not immediately respond to requests for comment." (credit. Scott Feinberg, THR)
