Who is the Man (?) Behind the Computer Screen?

I guess I should start this off by introducing myself, for those of you who aren't familiar with me. My name is Jon Adams. I'm a Journalism major at Rowan University. I started this blog during my first semester at Rowan, when I began my Online Journalism class. I had always wanted to start a blog of my own for the purpose of reviewing film but I had never had the incentive to. It wasn't until I was required to that I did, and what turned into a school assignment became so much more.

Though I'm still very young on my path in journalism, I hope to keep this blog going and use it to land an internship. Through this blog, I've had some great experiences, including receiving amazing feedback, the chance to interview one of my idols and gain an audience of people who are happy with the content. That alone is enough, but I know there's potential to turn this into a legitimate site.

As someone who writes about movies, I get asked about my favorites a lot. So here's a little write up on my favorite.

My all time favorite movie is Black Swan, directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis. The film centers on Nina (Portman), a ballet dancer who desperately wants the lead role in her company's production of Swan Lake. Thomas (Cassel) reluctantly gives her the part, but reminds her that she doesn't have what it takes to play the sexual Black Swan; she's too pristine and reserved (like the White Swan) to play the part. She begins experiencing extreme hallucinations due to the stress of the role itself, and the fear of losing it to the much more "loose" Lily (Kunis). As the date for the show gets closer, Nina descends further and further into madness, and her life becomes strikingly similar to the story of Swan Lake. Is it real? Or in her head?

I had always known I wanted to be a film critic, but I never had seen a film that resonated with me on such a level to push me to follow my dream (which I had no idea how to pursue). Black Swan was the movie that made me want to be a film critic; despite its completely crazy premise, Aronofsky created his own ballet, focusing on a truly magnificent performance by Natalie Portman. It was stunning, maddening and magnificent; unlike anything I had ever seen before.

So there you have it.
