The Golden Globes are still at the bottom of the awards ladder (hey, at least they've got more credibility these days than the Emmy's do, right?) due to their undeniable star fucking problem (Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp both got nominated for The Tourist...... need I say more?). However, in recent years, they've gotten a little bit better with their choice of nominees and winners.
The biggest problem awards shows seem to face, is the ability to keep things moving and keep things enjoyable/exciting. By the time the Globes come around, we've endured numerous critics groups and hype about who's going to win, and so things seem pretty predictable (and our predications are often right, though there's a nice surprise thrown in for good measure, sometimes). So it's up to the host to keep the audience at home engaged in the show.
Last year, the Globes chose everyone's favorite pair off BFFS, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to host, and as someone who usually loathes watching the Golden Globes, I absolutely loved it, and so did everyone else watching; it was the most successful show in recent history. So look forward to similar success, and more laughs for the next 2 years! I know I will be.
