Academy Award Winner Mo'Nique is Back Everyone

It's been 5 years since Mo'Nique's titanic performance in "Precious: Based on the Novel by Sapphire" won her the Oscar and 500 other acting awards. In fact, it's also been 5 years since Mo'Nique has been in a movie; after winning her trophy, the actress has been shopping around for the right project to star in. The last time we heard from her, she informed us she had purchased the rights to fellow Best Supporting Actress winner Hattie McDaniel's life story, and that director Lee Daniels would direct her in the title role. No news on that particular, film, however, Mo'Nique is ready to break her acting hiatus with a film that looks like another huge opportunity.

Monique will star alongside Isaiah Washington and newcomer Julian Walker in the coming of age film "Blackbird. Though the film has not received a wide/limited release date, it will have an official premiere at New York's Gay, Bisexual and Transgender film festival in 3 weeks from now.

The official synopsis for the film reads:

"Blackbird tells the story of 17-year-old Randy Rousseau (Walker), a devout high school choir boy struggling to come of age in the small religiously conservative Mississippi town he calls home. Randy juggles his role as star of the church choir with facing the everyday trials of life as a high school misfit- a misfit plagued by eerie visions and premonitions. Complicating matters, his little sister has gone missing and his parents have subsequently split up, leaving him to care for his heartbroken mother, Claire (Mo'Nique). When Claire discovers a shocking secret her son has been hiding, she blames him for the disappearance of his sister. Randy’s father, Lance (Washington), who has been keeping a watchful eye on his broken family, steps in to give his son a hand as he struggles to make the difficult transition into manhood."

No doubt this is very timely film that will speak to many; the teaser alone was filled with many moments that left a strong impression, and if there's anyone that can play a conflicted mother, it's Mo'Nique; her Mary Johnson is one of the most incredible portrayals ever set to screen.
