It seems like Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell are set to become the next Burton & Depp or Scorsese & DiCaprio-esque duo in terms of collaboration. In what will be their 3rd film together (after Silver Lining's Playbook and last winter's American Hustle), O.Russell could potentially take over for Bridesmaids co-writer Annie Mumlo as the director and screenwriter of a film based centered on the creator of the Miracle Mop. O.Russell has admitted he would write the screenplay for Lawrence specifically.
Though nothing has been announced or decided, Deadline reports the director is VERY interested in the project, and has admittedly been very enthusiastic about working with Lawrence. He directed her to a Best Actress Oscar for his sleeper hit Silver Linings Playbook, and nearly directed her to a second Oscar for American Hustle (Lupita Nyong'o of 12 Years A Slave narrowly edged out a win after a close race between the 2 all season).
The film will center on Joy Mangano, the creator of the Miracle Mop, who become an infomercial sensation. Too soon to tell if the project will actually see the light of day (and if it would actually be any good), but Lawrence + O.Rusell are awards magnets of late, and with a biopic prestige behind it, it could be an unexpected hit.
Lawrence has expressed a desire for a break from acting after the last Hunger Games film (Mockingjay Part II) is released, and is already set to star in 2 Gary Ross films (who directed her in the very first Hunger Games film). It'll be interesting to see where this fits in with her desired break.
