Jessica Chastain Will Play Marylin Monroe in the New Biopic "Blonde"

That's right, the natural red head will star as the famous blonde bombshell in the upcoming adaptation, entitled "Blonde" based on the biography of the same name by Joyce Carol Oats.

Directed by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), Chastain has been at the top of the list to play the icon for some time now. After giving Academy Award nominated performances in 2011's "The Help" and 2012's "Zero Dark Thirty", it's easy to see why. Chastain has been heralded as her generation's Meryl Streep. She's set to appear in 3 films this year, including Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar".

incontention.com's Kris Tapley spoke with Dominik, who had this to say about the project:

"I've been working on it for years and I think I've finally got a version of it that's doable for the money. So I'm pretty excited to go make that film. The movie's kind of like a horror film. It's a descent into… It's horrible. It's absolutely so fucking dark. I'm really, really into it. It's almost told from the point of view of her internal drama. She's got this sort of personal mythology about the way she sees the world, and everything that you know about her is recast in that light. So it does a lot of using the audience's association with iconic things, but against them. I think the movie will be really powerful."

Based solely on Dominik's previous film, it's clear that this may be the most compelling version of Monroe's life played out on the big screen, after the disappointingly flat "My Week With Marylin" starring Michelle Williams. Assassination was critically acclaimed when it premiered in 2007, winning nominations from almost every major guild and critics group.

The film will be produced by Brad Pitt's production company Plan B, which has produced films like "12 Years A Slave", "The Tree of Life", and "Moneyball" all major Oscar players in their respective years. The talent involved is enough to pique interest; it's clear that this is one of the most exciting potential Oscar contenders for 2015.
