Meet your 2014 Cannes Film Festival Jury

This year's Cannes Film Festival is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent history. After that star studded lineup, it was announced that Academy Award winner Jane Campion would serve as the jury president. Campion still remains the only female director in the history of the festival to receive the prestigious Palm d'Or.

However, today it was announced that Campion would be joined by 4 other women, including Academy Award winner Sofia Coppola,  rounding out the 9 person jury. Though it wasn't the "female dominated" jury people were expecting after the announcement that Campion would serve as its head, it's a change of pace from recent years which have been male oriented.

Below you will find a list of the complete jury, with a little background for each member.

  • Jane Campion has directed classic films such as "The Piano", "Portrait of a Lady", and most recently "Bright Star". She won the Palm d'Or in 1993 for The Piano, which went on to receive 3 Oscars out of the 8 it was nominated for (including a screenplay trophy for Campion). She was the second out of 4 women to ever be nominated for a Best Directing Oscar.

  • Willem Dafoe is a twice Oscar nominated actor, and most recognizable for his role as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's "Spiderman. Dafoe has received nominations for his performances in "Platoon" and "Shadow of the Vampire". No stranger to Cannes, Dafoe has had several films premiere at the festival, most notably "Antichrist" directed by Lars Von Trier. He will premiere in this summer's "The Fault in Our Stars", the adaptation of the critically acclaimed John Green novel.

  • Sofia Coppola is the daughter of Academy Award winning director, producer and screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola. In 2003 Coppola directed her debut feature "Lost In Translation", for which she received an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and nominations for Best Director and Best Picture (she served as one of the films 2 producers). Coppola has had 4 of her 5 features premiere at Cannes. Just last year, her film entitled "The Bling Ring" opened the festivals Un Certain Regard section. It's rumoured she's working on an adapting a live action version of "The Little Mermaid"

  • Carole Bouquet may not be a household name in the states, but she's a legend in France. She's probably best known for her role as a Bond-girl in 1981's "For Your Eyes Only". In addition to serving on the jury, Bouquet will be starring in the highly anticipated NBC adaptation of "Rosemary's Baby" starring Zoe Saldana. Bouquet will play the role of Minnie Castevet, played by Ruth Gordon in the original version.

  • Nicholas Winding Refn won the festival's Best Director award back in 2011 for his critically acclaimed "Drive" starring heartthrob Ryan Gosling. He followed up with last year's divisive "Only God Forgives" (again, starring Gosling). His next project is slated to be "I Walk With the Dead".

  • Jeon Do Yeon is a Cannes Festival native. She won the festival's Best Actress award in 2007 for her performance in "Secret Sunshine". She is the first Korean actress to judge for the festival.

  • Leila Hatami is best known for her critically acclaimed performance in 2012's "A Separation". She won the Berlin Festival's Best Actress award for this performance, along with her other female co-stars.

  • Gael Garcia Bernal directed 2012's critically acclaimed feature "No", in addition to 2004s "The Motorcycle Diaries". He has headed the festival's the Camera d'Or in the past.

  • Jia Zhangke won the festival's Best Screenplay award last year for his film "A Touch of Sin" (it was also nominated for the Palm d'Or). He has also been the recipient for the Venice Film Festival's prized Golden Lion and a Los Angeles Film Critics award for his film "Still Life" in 2008.
