Caméra d'or (Best First Feature)
- "Party Girl", dir. Marie Amachoukeli, Claire Burger & Samuel Theis
- The film also won the festival's Best Ensemble prize at yesterday's ceremony for the Un Certain Regard section.
Prix d'interprétation masculine (Best Actor)
- Timothy Spall, "Mr. Turner"
- This is a great first start for Spall (known best for his role as Wormtail in the "Harry Potter" series), who was the festival's underdog; a lot of people had expected Steve Carrell's heavily praised performance in the will be Oscar heavy weight "Foxcatcher". Though a win at Cannes doesn't always equate to Oscar, someone like Spall (someone usually stuck in the supporting cast) could benefit from a win here with his first real leading turn.
Prix d'interprétation feminine (Best Actress)
- Julianne Moore, "Maps to the Stars"
- Moore has now won acting honors from all 3 festivals: Belin, Venice and now Cannes. Once again Marion Cotillard has been left out to dry (3 years in a row now!), making Moore the first American actress to win the award since Kirsten Dunst back in 2011 for her work in Lars Von Trier's "Melancholia". Jury is still out on if Moore can translate this win into Oscar success, but this is a great first start.
- "Leviathan", screenplay by Andrey Zvyagintsev & Oleg Negin
- "Mommy", dir. Xavier Dolan & "Goodbye to Language", dir. Jean-Luc Goddard
- Bennett Miller, "Foxcatcher"
- Both of Miller's previous films ("Capote" and "Moneyball") have received Best Picture Oscar nominations. Though "Foxcatcher" will most definitely receive a nomination, this is the first of many (I'm sure) wins/nominations for Miller as a director. He was previously nominated for "Capote"
- "Les Marveilles" (The Wonders) dir. Avi Nesher
- "Winter Sleep", dir. Nuri Bilge Ceylan
